Yes, today is Record Store Day! And what does this day mean? The youngsters may be a bit puzzled by this one, so let me explain below. Check out some photos and video as well.
Have you noticed your local record store a bit busier today? You know why? It’s Record Store Day today!
According to the official website, it was an idea dreamed up by Chris Brown (no, not the singer) who, along with others founded the day in 2007 to celebrate all things music, independent record stores and of course, the vinyl itself.
Head on out quickly, though, because there are tons of special releases in honor of this special day – cool vinyl from Bruce Springsteen, John Lennon, R.E.M., Jimi Hendrix, Devo and Elvis, just to name a few. Also, a lost Rolling Stones single will be available as well. Nice!
What was your first record that you bought? Mine was back when I was in 7th grade… I Love Rock ‘n Roll by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Yeah, I’m dating myself, whatevs. Ahhh, the good ol’ days, eh? I love to look at the hundreds and hundreds of albums my father has…he really did have such great taste in music. You can’t ever get tired of listening to some classic Buddy Holly, Beatles, The Platters and Simon & Garfunkel. Thanks Dad, for introducing us kids into the world of music, he’s now made his way into the iPod world, so proud of him!
RSD is celebrated on every third Saturday in April. Want to know if you’ve got a local store that’s participating? You can check here. I’ll be heading over to my local Zia Records in a bit, hoping to find a gem and maybe pick up a special release.
So if you’ve taken part in Record Store Day 2010, let me know in the comments section what you picked up, would love to know! Meanwhile, some pictures and video below.
