Seven Jackie Kennedy interviews recorded only a few months after the infamous JFK assassination will be released next year in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of JFK’s inauguration. The landmark interviews have been kept secret at the behest of the former president’s wife, and have been in the custody of her daughter since her death in 1994. Check out the full story, as well as pictures and video below!
Caroline, the daughter left in charge of the tapes, will be publishing the 6.5 hours of audio and transcripts, along with a book on her mysterious mother’s life and times. Hyperion, the publisher, has worked with Caroline on several book releases over the years.
The Jackie Kennedy interviews hold promise of being a ground-breaking and fascinating insight into the JFK White House from an eye-witness on the front lines. Hyperion says:
“These interviews offer a remarkable window into the intelligent, courageous, and keen observer that Jacqueline Kennedy was. Readers will be riveted.”
According to the publisher, the subject of the tapes covers such material as JFK’s election campaigns, the management of the Cuban Missile Crisis, what it was like being a wife/mother in the White House, and most interestingly what JFK would have done with a second term in office. You don’t even have to work to make that interesting!
Caroline said in a statement about the planned July 2011 release:
“My mother’s passion for history guided and informed her work in the White House. She believed in my father, his vision for America, and in the art of politics, and felt it was important to share her knowledge and excitement with future generations. It is a privilege for me to honor the memory of my parents by making this unique history available.”
The JFK Presidency was one that was both iconic and revolutionary for the USA, and I’m excited to see what details the Jackie Kennedy interviews can provide!
