Tina Charles: UConn’s Basketball Player (Biography)

Meet Tina Charles, she is the Connecticut Sun’s 1st pick in the 2010 WNBA draft, but her life is far more interesting that this. Well yeah! WMBA draft is huge, but she was born a star. As you probably heard Tina was the first player picked during the 2010 WNBA draft by the Connecticut Sun, this is her second triumph this year, after all like 2009, this year Tina along her UConn Huskies teammates totally rocked at the National Championships.

"It’s unbelievable, my heart is still pounding out of my chest," Charles said. "I’m more interested what impact I’ll have on the team more than just being the No. 1 pick." Said Tina.

Tina Charles Biography

  • Tina Charles was born on December 5th, 1988 in Jamaica, New York.
  • She studied at Christ The King High School.
  • She started playing basketball in high School. Her position is center.
  • She was named WBCA National Player of the Year.
  • She was also named McDonald’s All American, Miss Basketball, New York City Player  of the Year.
  • In 2006 she scored 12 points at the WBCA high School All America Game.
  • That same year she played with the New York Gazelles.
  • For her college studies she decided to go to the University of Connecticut, where she is pursuing a major in Psychology and a minor in Criminal justice.
  • As part of the UConn Huskies on her junior year she was selected at the State farm All America team.
  • In 2009 she joined the USA Basketball Women’s National Team, where they won the Gold.
  • Also in 2009  she was selected as part of the USA National Team that participated at the 2009 Ekaterinburg International Invitational; USA won the Gold Medal
  • She was named the 2009 USA Basketball Player Of the Year.
  • In February, 2010 she was inducted in the Huskies With Honor.
  • She was awarded with the 2010 Big East Conference Player of the Year.
  • She won the 2010 Naismith Trophy on April, 2010.
  • Besides her basketball career and as part of her criminal justice studies she takes time of her schedule to get her intern time at Bergin Correctional Institute.
