It looks like now is not the right time to start acting for France’s First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. Woody Allen’s film, that was possibly going to feature the President of France’s wife, will now have another leading lady. See below for more on this situation, including more photos and video.
This prominent French woman has tried her hand in modeling and singing, and was hoping to venture out into the world of acting. The movie is to be set in Paris and filming is scheduled to start in July. Though her husband gave her permission to participate in the project, when the final decision had to be made, she was not chosen for the lead.
Last year there was a conversation between Madame Bruni-Sarkozy, Woody Allen and President Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla explained,
“He offered me a role in his next movie,” Bruni-Sarkozy said in the interview. “I don’t know for what character, but I said yes. I’m not an actress at all,” she said. “Maybe I will be terrible. But, in my life, I cannot let such a chance go.”
After much thought, it seems that Oscar winner Marion Cotillard will instead be the lead, joining other cast members Rachel McAdams and Owen Wilson. The reason given was that her main “job” in life is not that of an actress and her schedule may interfere.
“She could be taken away at any moment by other duties, like a political crisis or an important event. I have to take account of the risks that there could be, and hiring her is far from certain.”
I guess that’s a fair enough reason. Since she married the French president in early 2008, she has kept plenty busy as a singer and First Lady. She has been her husband’s companion on many political trips, and has released 3 music albums, one after the union. However at this stage is life she is looking to leave politics, and joins her father-in-law in the opinion that the President should not run for another term.
I will be interested to see what this film is like even though it won’t involve a Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Woody Allen partnership. But tell me what you think after you check out these pictures and video.
