Kevin Willard: Seton Hall’s New Coach

As you probably remember we reported just a few days ago about Seton Hall’s decision to fire Coach Bobby Gonzalez, in that same news we told you who Seton Hall’s new coach prospect, as we said Kevin Willard’s name was the only name we heard that they had their eyes on, later we found out that other names like Mike Rice from Robert Morris University and Fran McCaffery from the University of Iowa’s Sienna’s Basketball team were also interview about the coaching position. Today it is confirmed, former Iona College, from Rochelle, New York is Seton Hall University’s new coach.

So now Iona Gaels’ coach became Seton Hall Pirates’ new Coach, but let’s find out more about Coach Willard, read a little biography about him below.

Kevin Willard’s Biography

  • Kevin was born on April 6, 1975 in Huntington, New York.
  • His father is Ralph Willard head coach of Louisville University and former Western Kentucky University and College of the Holy Cross.
  • He played with the Panthers as a point guard when he went to Pittsburgh.
  • He won the Big East All Academic Honors in Pittsburgh.
  • Then he went to Western Kentucky under his father’s coaching directions.
  • At WK he won Second Team All-State Honors.
  • His coaching career started in 1997 where he became assistant coach under Rick Pitino with the Boston Celtics. Pitino resigned in 2001.
  • Their next step was the Louisville Cardinals where he stayed until 2007.
  • He became Iona’s Gaels head coach in 2007 replacing Jeff Ruland.
  • He was hired by the Seton Hall’s Panthers on March 28th, 2010.
  • He met his wife Julie Wagner at Pittsburg College, and got married in 2000.
  • In March 2010 he was named the 2010 Rock MAAC Coach of The Year.
  • They welcomed their son Colin in August 2006 and Chase born in June 2008.
