Daniela Hantuchova is in the news today as she made it to her first ever Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open Thursday, only to be ousted by Ana Ivanovic. She complained that Ivanovic’s shuffling of her feet on the court made a squeaking noise, thus distracting Daniela. She had complained to the umpire, which virtually went ignored.
As a biography, Daniela Hantuchova was born on April 23, 1983 in Poprad, Czechslovakia, which makes her 24 years old. She stands an amazing 5’11”.
Daniela turned pro in May 1999.
Daniela has had greater success in mixed doubles. She won the 2001 Wimbledon championship with Leos Friedl. In 2002, she won the Australian Open mixed doubles with Kevin Ullyett, the 2005 French Open with Fabrice Santori, and with Mahesh Bhupathi won the 2005 U.S. Open.
Daniela had a breakout year in 2002, where she won at the Indian Wells event, beating out Martina Hingis in the final. She was in the final in Filderstadt, but ended up losing to Kim Clijsters. Throughout 2002, she reach semifinals in Montreal, New Haven, Linz, and Eastbourne.
She started out 2003 with a bang, but unfortunately due to her parents’ divorce that same year, she struggled with her matches and lost weight, fueling rumors that she was anorexic.
Daniela’s 2004 season found her with a 24-24 win/loss record and ranked 31 in the world. In 2005, she finished that season with a 37-25 record. In 2006, she moved up to being ranked 17th in the world and had a 34-25 season.
In 2007, Daniela improved, and had a 52-28 record, with her ending the year ranked at #9 in the world, marking her first top 10 finish since 2002.
