Washington Wizards’ Gilbert Arenas’ sentenced has been revealed, what was his sentence? What about probation? Community Service? Fine? Keep reading to know all the details behind Gilbert Arenas’ sentence plus take a look at the photos and video below.
Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty to his gun felony and to tried to convince the Jaravis Crittenton story in an attempt to save him. He was charged in January at D.C Superior Court, he was going to remain out of jail until his sentence was given on March 26th.
"accepted full responsibility for his actions, acknowledged that those actions were wrong and against the law, and has apologized to all who have been affected by his conduct," said Kenneth Wainstein.
For him the time while he awaited for his sentence was not easy as he once said he deserves to be punished for his actions, he took the time also to work with PETA as well as he showed his gun collection to the world, at least some of them since he once said he owned over 500. Some are antiques like the one he said he purchased from a guy who has a World War I gun collection, I wonder if he has a permit for those?
But now Gilbert’s waiting time is over his sentence is set in the District of Columbia Superior Court by judge Robert E. Morrin, who sentenced Arenas to 30 days in a halfway house plus 400 hours of community service (not at basketball clinics), two years probation and a $5,000 fine which he can start in about five days or so.
You might be wondering what is a halfway house, is it some sort of fancy jail? Well, no you guys it is not a fancy jail in fact it is not even a jail, I mean people who are in there are not locked down nor they can’t go out either they have curfews, regulations and all that.
While his sentence was well received by Gilbert, the assistant Attorney was not so happy about it, he said that any other guy and by guy he might be suggesting not a celebrity, who has a criminal record will without any doubts go to jail, even more when Arenas lied in his testimony in the beginning. In other words he said that "He goes out onto the court and makes a joke of it — essentially making a mockery of this judicial system."
Now we wonder what will be his future with the Washington Wizards, it was rumored that they could attempt to erase 4 years of his 6 year contract, but this later was confirmed in a late interview given by team president Ernie Grunfeld and Abe Pollin’s family
"Gilbert has admitted his mistakes and will now pay his debt to our community, We are confident that he has learned something significant from the experience and we now look forward to moving on and focusing on building this team into the contender that our outstanding fans deserve." We’re not going to void his contract. As I’ve said all along, he’s going to be with us, Gilbert is a part of this organization, he’s part of our team, and he will be back with us next year. I think people forget that he’s still one of the best players in this league.”
