Meet Torah Bright, the beautiful snowboarder from Australia. See photos, video and a biography of Torah below.
UPDATE 1/23/09: Congratulations to Torah Bright for winning gold at the X Games in the Superpipe event. Heavy favorite Gretchen Bleiler took a nasty spill during her second run in the final, and ended up not doing a third run.
“We’ve all taken our fair share of beatings this week,” Bright said. “Only because everybody wants to ride their best and push the sports even further.”
As a biography, Torah was born on December 27, 1986 in Cooma, Australia. She is 21 years old and stands 5’4″.
Torah is the second youngest of five siblings in the Bright family. Torah’s older brother Ben is her coach. Torah has an older sister, Rowena, who competed in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
Torah started skiing by the time she was two years old and started to snowboard at the age of 11. In 2001 she competed at the FIS National Championships in the Halfpipe event and placed second. She would go on to place in the Top 3 of several events in 2004. In 2005, she placed 1st in the Nippon Open and Arctic Challenge, Trosmo, Norway. In 2006, she placed 1st in three events – the US Open (Halfpipe), the World Superpipe Championships, and Vans Cup. 2007 was an incredible year for Torah, as she placed 1st in the Halfpipe at the EXPN Winter X Games 11, X-Trail Nippon Open, and Burton New Zealand Open. In the Superpipe she placed 1st at the World Superpipe Championships.
