Reports indicate that Rapper Sean Combs is interested in purchasing English Football (Soccer) club Crystal Palace. A spokesperson confirmed Tuesday the reports of the P Diddy buy. Teams in the English Football world typically protest to American ownership, but word is the financially strapped Crystal Palace would welcome Puff Daddy with open arms. Although out of the rapping limelight in the last few years, Combs has certainly been staying busy. Mainly working on his Sean John clothing line, he designed the uniforms for the Dallas Mavericks alternate jersey. He also told Wolf Blitzer recently that he plans to open a business school in New York. And he is also said, incredibly, to be working helping Joaquin Phoenix on his first rap album.
Just Thursday though, another surprise change in direction was confirmed with the potential P Diddy buy. Team Crystal Palace is a fallen giant in the English Football world, and is a very interesting choice for the rap mogul.
Crystal Palace is at the bottom of a league 1 tier below the Premiership League (the top league in England). Once a contender in the Premiership, debt and a lack of new funds has forced the big name players away from the club and noticeably affected the clubs performance. In a way, this makes it an ideal fit for Combs.
A source close to the situation shed some light on the potential purchase:
“Diddy was in London meeting football fixers a couple of weeks ago. The finance is in place, he’s just deciding who he thinks he’ll make a bid for. Portsmouth were mentioned but he thought Palace were a better idea. He could cover their debt and bankroll a return to the Premier League. He liked the name as well.”
As well as being able to cover their debts, some say that Combs will use the opportunity to showcase some more of his uniform designing talents. Also, the club is located near the heart of London, talk about an ideal market for fashion!
