Meet Tiger’s Caddie, Steve Williams, he has been Tiger Woods’ caddie and friend for the last eleven years, most people thought he was Tiger’s accomplice during his whole alleged affairs, and this accusation has made him really angry. What else besides this do we know about him? I mean who really is Steve Williams? Keep reading to know more about him plus check out Steve’s photos and video below.
Well, Tiger’s caddie was born in Wellington, New Zealand on December 29, 1963. He has been caddying since he was ten years old at his local Paraparaumu Beach Club. When he was thirteen he realized how much he liked caddying, so his father managed to put Steve as a caddy for the famous Australian golfer Peter Thomson. Now with Thomson he would travel to Australia where he would try to learn as much as he could from other caddies.
During 1978 and 1988 he had the opportunity to go to major golf tournaments like the Asian Tour, European Tour, Japanese Tour and Australia where he would caddy for other great Australian golfers like Terry Gale, Ian Baker Finch and Michael Clayton, when by chance in 1992 he teamed up with yet another incredible golfer, Greg Norman.
Steve became Greg’s official caddy, with him he kept on going to all the major golf tours, but fate would take Steve to the U.S. He would caddy for Ray Floyd, with whom he would think of as a father during the ten years they worked together, but soon he would meet that incredible young American golfer named Tiger Woods.
In 1999, just after he stopped caddying for Ray, Steve received a proposition by Tiger asking him to be his caddy and he certainly accepted. Together they conquered many titles in many tours, as well as recognition. On more than one occasion Steve made some comments about Phil Mickelson, do you remember that one?
His relationship with Tiger grew into a great friendship, when he was not caddying for Tiger he would be racing and Tiger supported him, but you already know how that story goes. What you might not know is Steve’s other passion, racing cars!!!
His passion for fast cars and caddying went hand in hand, he would spend his free time as a caddy watching those impressive engines roar in the fast track near his town called Te Marua Speedway. One of his favorite racers was Clark Proctor, who he had the opportunity to met and gave him his chance at racing. Since the first time behind the wheel it was a total adrenaline rush, the best he had ever experienced, from that time he hasn’t stopped racing ever since. Steve followed Tiger’s steps and started his own foundation to help Junior Golfers with his own foundation along with his wife Kirsty. In addition he gives help to other organizations in New Zealand. His dedication and hard work towards others was recognized at the Queen’s Birthday Honor list, accrediting Steve a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
When the whole scandal surrounding Tiger Woods began some people began to wonder if he was aware of Tiger’s alleged affairs, if he covered for him, and all of these accusations infuriated him – mostly at his good friend Tiger for having all those alleged affairs, for hurting Elin and his kids, certainly he was upset at him, but he has no intention of turning his back on Tiger whatsoever. On the contrary now if when his good friend needs him and family support, he also added that if he knew something he wouldn’t remain quiet about it.
"I knew nothing, that’s my answer. I don’t have to clarify or extend that answer, I knew nothing. Of course I’m mad at him, why would you not be? I’m close with his wife and he’s got two lovely children.”
"When you’re a true friend of somebody, that’s when somebody needs your support and need you the most. That’s when you don’t walk away. Tiger’s one of my closest friends and he needs my support right now and I’d never think of walking away."
