I was wondering what was going on with Burt Reynolds! Bypass surgery for the 74-year-old actor was put on the calendar last month, and on Monday, as scheduled, the Smokey and the Bandit star checked into a Florida hospital and was released on Tuesday. Did you know that he had a promising career in football while attending Palm Beach High School? He went on to the Florida State University on a scholarship, but sadly, injuries he received in a car accident ended his dreams of going pro after college.

Reynolds’ manager, Erik Kritzer, revealed to the media that Burt told him “he had a great motor with brand new pipes and feels great“.

Furthermore, in a statement released by Kritzer, he said:

“Mr. Reynolds has been released from a hospital in Florida in which he had a scheduled bypass operation, He wants to thank everyone for their good wishes. Doctors plan on a speedy recovery.”

Our friends over at Pop Eater report (via National Enquirer and RadarOnline), that he was told by doctors that the surgery was needed to save his life.

You may remember that the Boogie Nights star checked into rehab last year for an alleged addiction to pain pills and alcohol. Obviously he is in a lot of pain right now as he goes through recovery, and is asking for more pain medication. He was told that what he is being given now is enough. Poor guy. That’s gotta be rough, especially after he was reportedly addicted to pain pills for so long. No doubt it’s a sensitive issue, as we wouldn’t want him to rely on those again. Hang in there!
