Jay McGwire, brother of Major League Baseball legend and admitted performance enhancing drug user is coming out with a tell-all book about Mark’s career and drug use “Mark and Me.” Needless to say, Mark is livid at his estranged brother, who he hasn’t spoken with in years. See below the picture for the full story as well a video!
Mark, signing on as hitting coach for the Cardinals in October 2009, publicly admitted to using performance enhancing drugs in his career, but only for “healing purposes.” His brother disagrees, saying he may have initially started using them for that purpose, but Mark also knew that he would bulk up.
“Mark knew that he was going to get the strength and endurance and size. I know that the main motive to justify taking steroids was healing. I know that for a fact. But in the long run he knew the strength and the size and endurance will increase. I don’t know why he’s coming across that it was all healing.’’
Mark and his brother had a good relationship until 2002, when Jay McGwire’s step-son, Eric, tickled Mark at a family get together causing Mark to spill his coffee. Mark reprimanded Eric with a smack on the backside, which distressed Eric’s mother. No apologies were ever made and the brothers haven’t spoken in years. Mark says the current situation is just sad. And now, with “Mark and Me” releasing soon, Mark says reconciliation may never be possible.
“I took care of him for a number of years, yes. And I guess [the book] is what I get for payback, for taking care of somebody. I don’t know. It’s sad. I’ll say it again. It’s a sad day for my family. I don’t know how a family member could do something like that. But things move on. The way I look at it is, I came forward on my own, spoke from my heart, spoke from the truth. I’ll say it a thousand, a million more times if I have to. I’ve moved on from this and I hope everybody else can. It’s something that I have to live with for the rest of my life.”
It’s obvious that Jay McGwire is looking for a payday and perhaps some revenge against his brother, why else would he write the book? But that does not necessarily mean the details in the book are untrue. Would you read “Mark and Me?” Let us know in the comments section below!
