Viktoria Rebensburg: German Alpine Skier Wins Gold Medal

Viktoria Rebensburg won her gold medal on February 25th in the Women’s Giant Slalom in Vancouver, while Tina Maze from Slovenia won the silver and the bronze went to Elisabeth Goergl from Austria. Congratulations to Viktoria!!

Viktoria was born in Kreuth, Germany on October 4, 1989. Viktoria started skiing at a very young age. When she was just fourteen years old she joined the C- squad at the German Ski Association, where she got the opportunity to compete internationally. After three more years she gained her first title (Super G) at the 2006 German Championships. After that she won two more times in 2008 also in 2006 at the Junior World Championships. In Quebec she ended up sixth (Giant Slalom) and 14th in Super G at the 2007 World Cup. She ranked 16th in Giant Slalom, at the 2007 Alpine World Ski Championships she finished 8th (Giant Slalom) in Are, Sweden. The next season she competed at the 2008 Junior World Championships where she won the Gold (Super G), Silver (Giant slalom) and Bronze ( downhill) in Formigal, Spain.

The next year Viktoria won two gold medals (Giant Slalom, Super G) at the 2009 Alpine World Ski Championships in Val d’ sere, France. Now at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver she ranked 6th at the Giant Slalom on February 24th, but the next day not even the thick fog could stop this young German alpine Skier from getting her gold medal with the two run time of 2 minutes, 27.11 seconds. Good for Germany and great for her!
