As a biography, Anni Friesinger was born on January 11, 1977 in Bad Reichenhall. Her parents, Georg Friesinger and Jana Korowicka were both skaters.
Anni became World Junior Champion in 1996, and competed in the all-around championship when she was 17 years old, garnering 5th place in the World Championships in 1994. In 1998, she won the World Single Distance Championship in the 1500 m. She had to take time off from the 1999 season because of a back injury but came back in 2000 and won the European title. She became injured again in 2001 when she fell during the 1500 m European Championships, but came back once again to win her first World title.
During the 2002 Olympics, she won the gold medal in the 1500 m. In the 2006 Turin Olympics, she received the bronze medal in the 1000 m, but won the gold as part of the German team in the team pursuit competition.
She would go on to win several more championship titles.
Just last month, Anni won the 1000 m at the World Cup even in her native Germany, her fourth straight victory at that distance.
