Carolina Kostner: Italian Figure Skater (Photos, Video)

Meet Carolina Kostner, she is the gorgeous Italian Figure Skater, who also is a World Champion, European Medalist and perhaps Olympic medalist as well? We will have to wait for that one, but we can read about her life and career and might as well take a peek at some of Carolina Kostner’s photos and video below.

The beautiful Carolina is the second best figure skater in the world, now at Vancouver she will prove why. But Carolina’s ice gifted skills run in her veins. Her mother Patrizia was a figure skater coached by Carolinas’s grandma, her father Irwin is a former hockey player and her brother Simon is a hockey player. In addition to this her cousin and godmother is the former alpine skier Isolde Kostner who won two silver medals at the 1994 and 2002 Olympics. Carolina also has another brother, Martin.

Carolina was born on February 8th, 1987 in Bolzano, Italy. Bolzano is a region filled with people who speak Italian, German and only a small percentage speak Ladin (Rhaeto Romance Language) which explains why Carolina speaks Italian, German and Ladin, that’s not all, she also speaks French and English.

She started skating at age 4 and subsequently started training in Oberstdorf under the direction of Michael Huth who was her coach until 2009. He was replaced by Frank Caroll (who also trains Evan Lysacek). Carolina started 2001 by winning the 1st place at the Junior Italian Championships; 4th at the Junior Grand Prix and 11th at the junior World Championships. The next year she won the 1st place at the Nebelhorn Trophy, finish 10th at the Junior World Championships and 4th at the ISU Junior Grand Prix.

During the 2003-2004 season she won the 1st place at the Italian Nationals; 2nd at the Trophee Eric Bompard, Cup Of Russia and ISU Junior Grand Prix; 5th at the World Championships and at Skate Canada. In 2005 she won once again the Italian Nationals and 3rd at the World Championships.

She was selected flag bearer at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where she finished in the 9th place, won the Italian Nationals, 3rd at the European Championships and 12th at the World Championships.

2007 was a busy year for Carolina as she continued winning the Italian Nationals also won the  European Championships, NKH Trophee and the Nebelhorn Trophee, 3rd at the Cup of China, Grand Prix Finale and at the Finland Trophee plus her 6th place at the World Championships. 2008 was not a quiet one either as she won the 1st place at the Cup of Russia, Karl Schafer Memorial, Italian Nationals, 2nd at the World Championships, 3rd at the Grand Prix Finale and 4th at Skate Canada.

In 2009 she won the Merano Cup, 2nd at the European Championships, 6th at the Cup of China and Trophee Eric Bompard. In 2010 when she won the European Championships she did it with style, she also won the 2nd place at the Italian Nationals.
