Meet Ashleigh McIvor. She is the latest Olympic Gold Medal winner at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. Read more about this Canadian freestyle skier plus see Ashleigh McIvor photos and video below.
McIvor, who led the way early on, wasn’t bothered by the snow that was falling and forged on. The crowd was truly thrilled to see one of their own come out victorious on Cypress Mountain.
Hedda Berntsen of Norway came away with the silver, while France’s Marion Josserand was the bronze medal winner.
Here is a little biography on Ashleigh McIvor. She was born in Vancouver in September of 1983, which makes her 26 years of age.
Skiing is in her genes, as her parents both skied (that is how they met). Shortly after they married, they made Whistler their home. It is no surprise that Ashleigh put those skis on and in no time was racing competitively. Ski Cross came into the picture in January of 2003.
She was soon competing in the Winter X-Games, and of those appearances she took 7th place at the 7th and 10th X-Games. Most recently, she took 2nd at the Winter X-Games in January.
So far this season, she has done quite well, here are some notable highlights:
–5th place at the FIS World Cup (Italy)
–4th place at the FIS World Cup (USA)
–3rd place at the FIS World Cup (France)
–2nd place at the FIS World Cup (Italy)
–2nd place at the Winter X-Games
–1st place at the FIS World Cup (France)
In addition to skiing, she is an avid fan of mountain biking, riding dirt bikes and surfing. I bet you didn’t know that she also once graced the fashion runway in New York. She was participating in the show, “Skiing is Sexy”. We happen to agree!
Our congrats once again to Ashleigh McIvor on her Olympic Gold medal win. I’m sure we will be seeing more of this Canadian Freestyle Skier, perhaps at the 2014 Sochi Games? Check out more Ashleigh McIvor photos and video below.
