Brian was born on September 28, 1973 in Dearborn, Michigan. While he played some outstanding hockey at the University of Wisconsin in hopes to get drafted by the NHL, Brian was awarded with the 1995 Defenseman of the Year, First All Star team by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, and with the NCAA First All Star team, but not even with this was he drafted, so he tried his luck overseas.

Brian arrived at the home of the Brynas If in Sweden and later with the HPK in the SM-Liga (pro ice hockey League ) in Finland. He won the Best Defense man award twice (1997-99) called Pekka Rautakallio trophy, and the Kultainen trophy for Best Player. And as crazy as this may sound, without playing in the NHL he was named Best Hockey Player in the World, and all this called the NHL’s attention to Brian, so it was that on May 1999 he signed with the New Jersey Devils. Brian Rafalski lead the Devils on their way to the Stanley Cup and individually made it in the NHL All_Rookie Team.

Brian made his way with the U.S Olympic Hockey Team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. The U.S team lost to Canada and went away with the silver. The next couple of years he took part in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and competed in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

In 2007 it was the Detroit Red Wings who took notice of Brian, they offered him a five year deal worth $30M and his debut season with Detroit he lead them to win the Stanley Cup.

He joined the Olympic Hockey Team for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, although Brian is a defenseman, in his game against Canada he got his revenge from the Salt Lake City Olympics scoring two of the three points and the U.S defeated Canada. He did the same in his game against Norway.

With his busy career you might wonder if he ever had the time to get married, but he did; he and his beautiful wife Felicity are the proud parents of Daniel, Evan and Matthew, they got married when Brian was playing in Europe in fact Daniel was born on Finland.

You might want to keep you eye on this amazing hockey player, but don’t worry we’ll keep you informed, so in the meantime take a look at some of Brian Rafalski’s photos and video below.
