Congratulations to Andrea Fischbacher! This Austrian Alpine skier just won an Olympic Gold medal in the Super-G at the Vancouver Winter Games. Read a biography plus see Andrea Fischbacher photos and video below.
It was Andrea Fischbacher of Austria who captured the gold medal in the women’s Super-G event today, surprisingly it was not Lindsey Vonn of the U.S.
Fischbacher’s time was 1:20.14. Slovenia’s Tina Maze captured the silver, and American Lindsey Vonn (whose time was 1:20.88) took the bronze. Don’t feel too bad for Vonn, because she’s okay with her bronze medal win too.
“I already have a gold medal so I can’t be too disappointed. I think any medal at the Olympics is a success so I’m really happy about it.”
Of her win, Fischbacher said, “It’s a little crazy that I won, but I’m not giving it back.” It’s no surprise though, that Andrea took gold, as she has been skiing quite nicely of late – taking fourth place in the Downhill on Wednesday, right behind her compatriot Elisabeth Gorgl.
As a biography, here is what we know of Andrea Fischbacher. She is a native of Austria and was born in Schwarzach on October 14, 1985, making her 24 years of age. Currently, she makes her home in Ebem Im Pongau.
She made her first appearance on the competitive level at the World Cup in 2004. She competed in the 2006 Winter Olympics, but sadly did not medal. At the World Championships in 2006, she was the bronze medla winner of the Super-G event.
Skiing is not the only thing on this blonde Austrian’s mind. She also enjoys other sports such as volleyball and cycling. Oh, and did I mention she likes motorcycles?
Again, our congratulations go out to Andrea! No doubt this Austrian Alpine Skier is beyond thrilled with her Olympic Gold medal win, and rightfully so. With no more events that she is scheduled to participate in these Winter Games, I suspect there will be much celebrating going on in Vancouver tonight!!
