For Lindsey Vonn, her Gold medal win in the Downhill event is just the first of many golds this U.S. Alpine Skier may end up winning at these Winter Games. I’m sure she’s just savoring the moment now and worrying about her other events later!

For Lindsey, winning the Gold in the Downhill event is the first for an American woman in the Olympic games, so our congratulations go out to her on this amazing accomplishment. This is also her first medal at an Olympic Games, she came in eighth place in the Downhill event at the 2006 Turin Games

She finished the course with a time of 1 minute 44.19 seconds. Fellow American Julia Mancuso took the silver medal with a time of 1 minute 44.75 seconds and Elisabeth Georgl of Austria took the bronze.

Of her Gold medal win, Vonn was obviously quite excited and said:

“It’s one of the most incredible moments of my life. When I crossed the finish line and saw my name in first and Julia’s second, it was just the coolest thing.”

We all had a scare last week when Vonn revealed that she had a bruised shin, but after going through a training session this past Sunday she was a-okay. It also helped that the Super combined event originally set for last Sunday was postponed due to weather, so that aided in her recovery.

I know you’re wondering what other events Lindsey will be participating in and when. Well, I’ve got the answers for you right here.

Super-Combined: Scheduled for February 18.
Super-G: Scheduled for February 20.
Giant Slalom: Scheduled for February 24.
Slalom: Scheduled for February 26.

Of course, all of the events could be postponed due to weather, and if that is the case, I will update this post, so check back!

So again, our congratulations go out to Lindsey Vonn on hr Olympic Gold Medal win. Can she pull off a Michael Phelps at these Olympic Games? You can bet that the U.S. Alpine Ski Racer thinks so!
