As you might probably know, Germany’s Women’s Luge team totally rocks at every competition they attend, in fact is they won a medal every time, well since 1964, that is when the discipline was included in the Olympics. So our girl Tatjana Huefner was born on April 30, 1983 in Neuruppin, Germany. Her parents Karin and Edgar Huefner are both dentists in Germany and her brother Alexander is a former luge Athlete.

Tatjana blames her brother Alexander for getting her into luge, when she was just nine years old, and started practicing ever since. She was not part of the Olympic Luge Team that attended the 2002 Salt Lake City Games in Utah, but she still went and watched her fellow lugers, she explains that that was what motivated her to work a lot harder. And she did! Tatjana made it on the German Olympic team at the 2004 Winter Games in Turin, Italy where she won the bronze at the Women’s Singles. She won her second silver medal at the 2006 European Championship, the first was in 2004.

She won her gold medal at the 2007 World Championships in Igls, Austria plus two more (singles, mixed) the next year at her natal Germany and her most recent gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
