Charlotte Kalla: Swedish Cross Country Skier Wins Olympic Gold Medal

February 15, 2010

The Olympics are certainly in full swing and the latest news coming out of Vancouver is that Swedish cross country skier Charlotte Kalla has one the gold. Oh how I am loving these Olympic games. Keep reading I have more on this latest gold medal win including a great video of Charlotte doing her thing.

Olympics 1 2 3

According to the Vancouver Sun Swedish cross country skier Charlotte Kalla won the gold medal in the 10 km freestyle race with am amazing time of 24:58.4. Wow can you believe that time, that is petty freaking awesome. There were a total of 78 women slated to compete in the 10 km freestyle race at Whistler today, including four Americans. Charlotte pretty much led the race from the start. This is the first Olympic gold medal for Kalla.

As I said above Kalla pretty much led from start to finish. She had a lead time of about 12 seconds holding off silver medal winner Estonian Kristina Smigun-Vaehl. Norway’s Marit Bjoergen took home the bronze. Man I have to tell you I love anything to do with skiing but I think cross country is sweet. I certainly couldn’t do what Kalla, Smigun-Vaehl or Bjoergen did today.

So what did 22 year old Kalla have to say about her outstanding Olympic god medal win. Well according to Sports News the Swedish beauty said this:

“I feel a bit confused, it is going to take awhile for this to sink in, I can’t believe I am a gold medalist.”

Well believe it Charlotte you are a 2010 Winter Olympics gold medalist!

Along with this being the first Olympic win for Kalla this is also really her first big international breakthrough too. I am sure this will not be the last we see of Swedish cross country skier Charlotte Kalla, I think great things are ahead for this obviously talented athlete.
