Meet Jason Lamy-Chappuis, he is the handsome French Nordic Combined athlete who just won the gold at the Winter Olympics. Would you like to hear more about him? Then keep on reading plus don’t miss the Jason Lamy- Chappuis photos and video below.
Actually Jason was really born in America, in Missoula, Montana on September 9, 1986. His mother is American and his father is French. Jason loves to fly airplanes – he took his first flight when he was just five weeks old! When he was 18 years old he started taking flying lessons, you can appreciate his passion for flying on his web page that show you instead of a regular menu screen, it is actually an airplane cockpit, which I might add is totally cool!!
Jason recalls that his first skiing experience was back in Colorado where they moved to later. Jason started walking before he was one and hasn’t slowed down ever since. When he was four years old he took part in his first skiing competition at Club Med in Colorado; a few months later they moved to France.
Jason went to school at Bois D’Amont where he continued his skiing lessons, his first triumph came in 1994 at Les Rousses. That same year he also won at the Regional Ski Jump Cup and he continued winning titles at both disciplines jumping and cross- country.
In the 2001-2002 season he participated in the Junior French Cup where he won 1st place at the Nordic Combined and 3rd in Ski Jumping. The next year he won 1st place at the Winter Olympic Youth Festival in Slovenia. At the 2003 Youth World Cup in Norway he won 5th place and 6th in Sprint at the team event. This year he also participated in his first World Cup in Finland and in Norway he placed 27th. He ranked 54th at the FIS World Cup.
The next year he ranked 45th at the FIS World Cup, and 5th the next year. He also landed in 4th place (sprint) and 5th (team) at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino. He was the winner of the 2007 World Cup in the Sprint ranking overall in Kuusamo and again the next year in Oslo. He ranked 5th at the World Cup overall, 5th in 2008.
He won twice in Trondheim in 2008, two bronze medals at the 2009 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in the Czech Republic and the World Cup in Austria. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver he just won the Gold at the 10km normal hill (individuals).
You better keep this fantastic French Nordic Combined Athlete on your mind, cause he sure is on a roll! Today he just gave France the second gold and tomorrow who knows, I guess with his athletic career going so well his flying is going to have to wait a little bit more.
