Chemmy Alcott

Chemmy was born Chimene Mary Alcott, Chemmy is her nickname, and in my opinion suits her. Anyway Chemmy was born on July 10, 1982 in Twickenham, Middlesex, London. Her unreal beginning came very early, but really early; can you believe that she was skiing when she was just 18 months old!! At three she was already competing. She attributed her early start to her necessity to follow her big brothers Rufus, Mark and Alex steps. Her parents Tim and Eve were delighted to see her young daughter so into the sport.

She was eight years old and already in boys and girls championships. At eleven she suffered an accident, but that certainly didn’t stop young Chemmy. That’s how at thirteen she went to Germany and won the Children’s Championships. Her parents sent her to New Zealand to keep on with her skiing. Her school back home, Surbiton High School allowed her to take some time off to keep studying and skiing at Waterville Valley Academy in New Hampshire.

Chemmy’s first Youth competition was at the 1997 Giant Slalom at New Zealand where she won the bronze, the next year she won the silver at the Giant Slalom. In the Juniors competitions she won the gold at the grand Slalom in Austria, and again in the Grand Slalom. In 2002 she made her first appearance with the Olympic Team.

In 2004 she suffered a knee injury, that left her out of the British Championships. In Torino 2006 she finished 11th downhill. When she got the sad news of her mother Eve, at 59 years old unexpectedly passed away, she took some time off.

Although she didn’t have a great start at the 2007 season she managed to win the Giant Slalom and Slalom. At the 2009 World Championships she landed in the 21st spot and at the British Championships she won the Gold at Slalom, Super G, Downhill and giant slalom. She landed 16th in France.
