This blond beauty is originally from Augusta, Maine. She was born on April 19, 1985. Although she loves sports and practiced tennis, skiing and other outdoor sports, Julia‘s passion towards speed and the adrenaline rush that luge gave started when she was just 12 years old. Next she competed in her first competition in the juniors level. She won at the 2000 Verizon Youth U.S National Championships, won the bronze at the 2001 U.S. Junior Seeding Race and silver at the 2001 Youth World Cup. In 2002 she won the silver at the National Championship and gold at the 2003 Junior World Championship. In 2004 she was able to compete in the seniors championships, but she still tried out a few more times with the juniors, like when she won the silver at the Juniors World Championships.
At the end of the 2005 season she lost her father who suffered a heart attack, Julia went back home and didn’t compete with the 2006 Olympic Team. The next season proved to be a great one as Julia won the JetBlue Airways U.S National Star championship, and the next year she landed 8th on the 2007 World Championships in Austria. She finished 4th at the 2008 World Cup in Lake Placid, New York and 12th overall. She finished 5th at the 2007 Verizon U.S National Championships. In 2009 she won her third gold medal at Meransen, Italy. While training in Lake Placid, NY she injured her knee after she crashed, due to this she had to have surgery. After recovering from her knee surgery Julia went to Germany but hurt her neck, although she made it back she she finished 13th. This January she finished 5th at the World Cup, and said she can’t really wait to get to the Winter Olympics (she was selected to the Olympic team on December, 2009)
