Last year there were some rather funny ads during the big game, but how entertaining will the Super Bowl commercials be this year? Also, the yet-to-be-seen antiabortion (reportedly) ad featuring Tim Tebow and his mother is currently a topic of great controversy. Read more below.
With the NFL’s biggest game just days away fans are curious about the action in-between the action – commercials. This is the one time of the year that commercials are celebrated rather than rejected, which is one of the reasons that major corporations shell out some major dough for advertisements. That, and nearly 100 million viewers are expected to watch, which funny enough is 999,999,999 more viewers than the WNBA had for its championship game…I kid, I kid!
I think I speak for most people when I say that television advertisements are one of the most annoying things known to man, right behind Perez Hilton. Hence the reason why DVRs are so popular, but the Super Bowl is a totally different ball game (no pun intended). So let’s take a look at a few aspects of game day ads.
The Fox network took in an estimated $2.7 million for 30-seconds of airtime last year, however this year the ante has been upped by CBS by nearly 10% to a record $3 million for an equivalent amount of time. Is it worth it? You bet, because the popular ads are typically talked about for days after the sporting event, if not weeks, and major corporations know this.
Aside from the standard beer, chips, car and fast food commercials a few Movie trailers will reportedly debut, including: ‘Shutter Island’, ‘Iron Man 2’ and ‘The Last Airbender’.
As for the Tebow controversy – regardless of which side of the fence you are on, I think it’s silly to argue about something that we haven’t seen yet. This is America where every person shares the same remarkable privilege: it’s called freedom of speech. So let the man speak his peace, he is entitled to an opinion after all, right?
