Nancy Kerriganâ€™s father’ death shocked the world, fans all over feel terribly sad about her and her family, among all those people who feel so sad about this news is fellow skater Tonya Harding. She recently expressed her feelings about Kerriganâ€™s loss.
"Tonya feels very sad for Nancy and her family and extends her deepest sympathy and condolences to them. Tonya’s beloved dad, Al Harding, passed away this past April, so she understands the grief Nancy and her family are feeling at this difficult time."
Nancy and Al Harding divorced when Tonya was a teenager, she spent time with both of them, but said her relationship with her father was special, â€śI was Daddyâ€™s little girlâ€ť she once said.
Al Harding suffered health problems for a long time, he died at age 76 at his home in Tillamook, Texas on April 1st, 2009. Tonya keeps some of his ashes with her.
Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan both talented figure skaters and champions, were major news in the the 90â€™s, but what really got everyone’s attention was Tonya, along with her ex husband Jeff Gillooly, attacked Nancy on January 6, 1994. Tonya said she was innocent and blamed it all on Jeff, who denied everything Tonya said.
The next month Tonya pleaded guilty to conspiring the attack, and was sentenced to 500 hours of community service, $160,000 fine and three years of probation. She never really admitted she was involved although she did apologize to Nancy on national television, but a few months later the USFSA banned her from competing again at any event and took away her title. Tonya later tried her luck with boxing.
