It seems that more young athletes are suffering heart conditions. Like Gaines Adams, Jeron Lewis died at an early age from cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart. Lewis was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He has two sisters Candice and Deora and a brother Adrian.

His mother Frankie sent him to an after-school program at the Jennings Center, a place where he still used to visit old friend as often as he could and during the summer Jeron worked with young children.

He went to North Side High School and his college years started at Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel, Illinois. He later went to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado and then transferred to Southern Indiana where he was in his senior year majoring in Business Management.

On January 15, 2010 during a game against Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro, Kentucky, he suddenly collapsed on the floor and hit his head after his feet got tangled during the game. Trainers arrived to assist him and he began convulsing. He was taken to the emergency room at Owensboro Mercy Health System, where he was later pronounced dead at 9:52 p.m. The cause of death was heart arrest due to an enlarged heart. Jeron Lewis was just 21 years old.

He was engaged to Shaqueta Thomas, and they had a son Jamel, born last December. A fund is been raised by Southern Indiana University and  the Old National Bank to help his son’s education.

History repeats itself like when  23 year old Hank Gathers from Loyola Marymount collapsed during a game in 1990.
