First Tiger Woods’ sex scandal, his sponsorships canceled, now it is Gilbert Arenas’ turn to face the consequences after his felony gun charge.
Just a few days ago we heard about Gilbert Arenas pleading guilty to his felony gun charge in the courthouse at Washington, D.C after the incident along with teammate Javaris Crittenton last December. Gilbert Arenas has to go back to court in March. Meanwhile he can’t possess firearms and had to give up his passport.
But Gilbert Arenas’ consequences are just starting. First Adidas announces they were evaluating their sponsorship with the Washington Wizards player.
"We are evaluating our relationship with Gilbert Arenas based on his recent conduct and subsequent suspension from the NBA," Adidas spokeswoman Lyn Famiglietti said in a statement Friday. "We echo the Commissioner’s concern for such a serious incident and will continue to follow the investigation by the league and law enforcement."
In later news and after Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty, Adidas determined that they would end their contract with Gilbert Arenas, who since 2003, has been a major figure of its brand along with fellow basketball players Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard, Houston Rockets’ Tracy McGrady and Boston Celtics’ Kevin Garnett.
"In response to Gilbert Arenas’ guilty plea to felony charges, Adidas has terminated its agreement with the athlete effective immediately. Beyond this statement we have no further comment at this time," the company said in a statement.
Washington Wizard’s Gilbert Arenas life and career is for sure taking an unbelievable twist, Gilbert “Agent Zero” shoe from Adidas might be gone and let’s hope his sponsor with Halo 3 game NBA Live 08 by Xbox will not follow Adidas’ footsteps and remove Gilbert Arenas’ face from its game cover.
