Former Pitcher Matt Keough arrested for violation of his probation for DUI

Former pitcher Matt Keough has been arrested and accused of violating his probation by drinking at an Orange County hotel bar. He was convicted of driving under the influence in 2005 and was ordered on probation not to drink any alcoholic beverages. He was arrested Tuesday at a Marriott hotel bar after officers caught him drinking.

“The officers recognized him. They know he’s not supposed to have alcohol and they arrested him,” said Newport Beach police Lt. Steve Koudelka. “Even a sip of alcohol would be enough to violate his probation.”

was in the courtroom at his hearing holding a cellphone with disheveled hair,wearing an orange jail jumpsuit. His records show that he is ineligible for bail. The hearing has been rescheduled to Friday, Jan. 14. He used to play Major League Baseball with the Oakland Athletics, the New York Yankees, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Cubs and the Houston Astros and retired in 1986.

He has come from a baseball family,his father Marty Keough and his uncle Joe Keough also played in the MLB. Matt Keough’s son Shane is a prospect in the Oakland Athletics organization, picked in the 36th round by the A’s in the 2005 draft.

“The Keough family … asks that the media please leave the family alone while they work to get Matt the help he needs to defeat this unfortunate disease,�? said Dan Grigsby, Keough’s attorney .
