Accolades for her musical talent are beginning to pile up for Susan Boyle. It seems an eternity ago that the folksy woman from the Scottish countryside stormed on to the stage of Britain’s Got Talent. Susan Boyle is clearly on top of her game which is something that I cannot say for my local sports teams.
Months after her amateur debut Susan Boyle has the best selling album of 2009. The CD titled “I Dreamed A Dream” is named after her stirring rendition of that song which made her famous around the world. We have a video of her performance for you to enjoy below.
She has the best selling album of any singer in the world in 2009, and the best selling album in both her native Great Britain and the United States. In the U.S. she beat out such luminaries as Rihanna and another hot seller by Adam Lambert of America’s Got Talent. In Great Britain she has sold almost 1.5 million copies, easily beating out Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon. See how she celebrates success.
Pre-sales of the album at Amazon were astonishing, the largest number of orders they have received since keeping track of such things ten years ago. Clearly it was a sign of what would come when the album burst out of the starting gate. It zoomed right to the top of the charts when it hit the shelves in November and broke the sales record only four weeks later.
Before that of course was her viral YouTube video. After her debut appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, Susan Boyle’s YouTube rendition of “I Dreamed A Dream” reached over 100 million views.
Susan Boyle joins the ranks of vaunted musical stars who have sold over 1 million copies of an album. They call that a Gold record in the industry and it is something special for her to obtain given where she came from. She has actually sold 3 million already and counting. Just last week alone “I Dreamed A Dream” sold 700,000 copies.
As if conquering the western hemisphere is not enough Susan Boyle will next tour Asia where we can expect the same success as a worldwide phenomenon. She will be singing in Japan at a New Year’s eve concert and appearing on the Kohaku Uta Gassen show which is hugely popular in that country. On the TV show she will sing a Japanese folk song titled “Wings To Fly.”
Fittingly the Associated Press named Susan Boyle one of the top three stories in the world in 2009. They list her unlikely rise to stardom the second hottest story behind Michael Jackson.
And to top it all off she is already working on her second album. Will we ever tire of Susan Boyle? Tell us what you think in the comments.
