Daytona will be a proving ground for new NASCAR Driver Danica Patrick. Her stock-car debut won’t come at the Nationwide Series opener at Daytona International Speedway as it was once speculated. Instead it will take place at the Feb 6 ARCA opener. Read more below.
The brilliant Indycar driver is transitioning over into the National Association for Stock Car Racing circuit, but still needs to fill a few gaps in her 13-race schedule.
Her first NASCAR race is set to take place on February 20 at the Auto Club Speedway in California. Then just one week later she will compete again in Las Vegas.
I would imagine the reason that she declined to participate at the 2010 Daytona 500 is because of the level of talent at the elite series, which in turn would increase the already mounting pressure on the female driver. In fact, Patrick explained her decision in a recent interview, saying that:
“You only get one grand opening, so I’ve heard. We want it to be the right opportunity.”
Sitting next to her at the press conference was boss and partial owner of JR Motorsports Dale Earnhardt Jr. as well as the rest of her new team.
Danica Patrick Fun Facts: She was born in Beloit, Wisconsin and is 27-years-old. She has won several awards including IndyCar Rookie of the Year, and IndyCar Most Popular Driver. She got her start racing at an early age via go-karting. She dropped out of high school, where she was a cheerleader, but attained a GED. She has been featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue twice, which is the same number of times that she has been named one of FHM’s 100 sexiest women in the world.
