Meet Elizabeth Lambert, the dirty player on the New Mexico Lobos soccer team. Video below shows Lambert, well, getting quite violent with the players from BYU. Ya gotta see it to believe it.

It all went down yesterday during the Mountain West women’s semifinal between New Mexico and Brigham Young.

Lambert, a pretty blonde defender on the Lobos’ team, is the talk of the ‘net as video of her violent play on the field has been seen by thousands thanks to YouTube. You can see her pretty much rough up any BYU player that gets in her way – kicking one, shoving another, kicking the ball into the face of a player, punching one in the back and the one that shocked me the most – yanking the ponytail of Kassidy C. Shumway and throwing her to the ground. She did eventually receive a yellow card. That’s it. Geez! MMA material, for sure.

For Lambert’s dirty play on the field, she has been suspended indefinitely by the university, with Lambert releasing the following statement for her actions:

“I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions. My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary from the coaching staff and UNM administration. This is in no way indicative of my character or the soccer player that I am.

“I am sorry to my coaches and teammates for any and all damages I have brought upon them. I am especially sorry to BYU and the BYU women’s soccer players who were personally affected by my actions. I have the utmost respect for the BYU women’s soccer program and its players.”

Many feel that her tactics on the field were merely in response to what was being done to her but really…did she need to be so violent in return?

As a biography, here is what we know on Elizabeth Lambert. She was born on December 29, 1988 so her age is 20 years old. While in high school, she helped her team win two championship titles while a sophomore and junior and won numerous awards.

She is currently a junior and a defender on the New Mexico women’s soccer team. You can read much more about her here and see a picture of her here.

Okay peeps, let’s get the conversation going on this one. What do you think of Elizabeth Lambert and her dirty play on the field? Leave me a comment! Video is provided below for your viewing pleasure….

    P. Sheeran Says:

There was no provocation from the BYU players that justified the actions of Lambert. She should be banned from collegiate sports for the rest of her college career. Maybe she can rough up her fellow New Mexico students in an intramural league.

    R. Gutierrez Says:

Sheeran obviously has never played soccer. The hair pull is what should warrant a 2 match ban, other than that play on. Note, she was not given a red card during the game, though she should have been booked for the hair pull.

    Rtrup Says:

The hair pulling was over the top, and should have taken her out of the game. The shoving, tripping and hitting were part of the game when I played, so I don’t see an issue there. She will probably lose her scholarship, and that will be the real punishment for this young person. :-(

    Shane Hanrahan Says:

She is a loser, and unlike losing weight or going back to school or anything that is lacking which one can change, you can’t change that. Loser sticks with you for life. Pity her.

    soccerhead Says:

Let’s talk about the total incompetence of the referee and his assistants in curtailing these actions. This has been a battle all season as I have seen it…referees that absolutely suck and cannot keep up. There were issues with WPS this summer and they continue with the NCAA. It’s time for referees to held to a higher standard. Also, let’s look at ratios:

Football 22:7 (3.14 players per official)
Basketball 10:3 (3.33 players per official)
Baseball! 10-13:4 (~3 players per official)
Hockey 12:3 (4 players per official)
Wrestling 2:1 (2 participants per official)
SOCCER 22:3 (7 players per official)

    head Says:

I think official ratios aren’t really a good way to compare sports. Having more officials to balance out team sports could cause more delays and greater differences in opinions that could lead to double standards.

    TJ Says:

That is dirty play, no question.

    Ignatius Reilly Says:

I’m going to take the unpopular position here.

Lambert was wrong in kicking, pulling and punching, HOWEVER, she was only going as far as the referees would allow.

Men in sports will push, gouge, punch and kick until the referees call the foul. And we’d all say…if they didn’t like it, they should’ve fought back.

The BYU chicks didn’t fight back. The refs didn’t call the foul.

Lambert was just testing her limits. SHE WAS JUST BEING AN ATHLETE.

    playfair Says:

How someone plays a sport shows the world their character, and Lambert’s play is a reflection of herself, her coaches, and the Univ. of New Mexico. Do you think for a moment that if she had not been “outed” on video, she would have stopped using those tactics? She should be banned.

  10. 10
    Ignatius Reilly Says:

The greatest male soccer player EVER (Diego Marodona) cheated when he put a handball in the goal in World Cup final. He was not banned. Everyone says…oh well…he got away with it.

A man cheats and gets away with it, we all say…GOOD JOB.

    A chick does it…it’s a crime?

No. Lambert was just doing her job. Be an enforcer until the foul is called.
