Thousands attended the funeral of Huma Akram, as the wife of Wasim Akram was loved and respected by many.

Akram, who reportedly had a brain disease, was en route to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for treatment last week. The air ambulance transporting her to Singapore stopped in Chennai to refuel, and it was there that she took a turn for the worse. She was taken to Apollo Hospitals. An official at the Chennai airport said:

“She developed complications when the flight was refueling. So they requested permission to disembark. It was granted.”

Akram died on Sunday morning, following heart and kidney complications.

As a biography, Huma Akram was 42 years of age at the time of her death. She had married Wasim Akram, the former Pakistan cricket captain, in 1993. Their sons, Taimur and Akbar survive her.

Akram was a psychologist and hypnotherapist and provided counseling services to her husband’s team during the mid 1990′s.

Saweed Anwar, former Pakistan batsman, presided over the funeral prayers. The service was attended by cricket players Mushtaq Ahmed, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Muhammad Yousuf.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Huma Akram, wife of Wasim Akram. You can see an interview of the two of them below.
