Newark Mayor: Conan Banned, Letterman Welcomed

October 6, 2009

Cory Booker, the Mayor of Newark has “according to the powers invested in (him) by the people of Newark” officially banned Conan O’ Brien from the city’s airport. Get the rest of the scoop here.

No need to fret, Conan, LaGuardia is close by.

The Mayor of New Jersey’s biggest city didn’t take kindly to a joke that the “Tonight Show” host recently made on his program during the opening monologue. Poking fun at the city’s dismal reputation the funny man said:

“The mayor of Newark NJ wants to set up a citywide program to improve residents’ health. The health care program would consist of a bus ticket out of Newark.”

Despite the fact that the wisecrack was quite humorous to those of us not living in Newark, the city’s mayor took offense, and issued a declaration that banned Conan O’ Brien from the airport…

I for one can’t wait to hear Conan’s retort to the Mayor’s plea for attention. In fact, if anything, I think the only people who have the right to take offense to the joke are those that may of mistaken the “Tonight Show” for a real news program, and got there hopes up about the free bus ticket.

For the dramatic conclusion of Booker’s feeble attempt to land a blow against O’ Brien he sternly said:

“Try JFK, buddy.”

I tell you, these words may have stung, but not nearly as bad as Conan’s triathlon skit mishap last week, in which the comedian severely hit his head landing him in the hospital.
