Boxing champ Mike Tyson was sentenced earlier today to three years probation from charges of posession of cocaine and driving under the influence.

In addition to the probation, he will serve one day in jail for the DUI. He is expected to report Tuesday to the Maricopa County Jail in downtown Phoenix at 10:00 AM.

Tyson was arrested on the evening of December 29, 2006 after a traffic stop. He had spent the night partying at Scottsdale’s Pussycat Lounge. During the stop, it was noted by a police officer that Tyson was seen wiping a white substance off the dashboard of his car and that his speech was slurred. They later found drugs in his car and on his person.

Immediately after his arrest, he checked himself into the Wonderland drug rehab center in California and has also passed 29 drug tests since his arrest.

This impressed Judge Helene Abrams, who handed down Tyson’s sentence.

“I’m most impressed you got help almost immediately upon your arrest,” Abrams told Tyson. “You also assisted others by becoming a role model.”

What will Tyson do after his one day stint in jail? He has plans of helping disadvantaged youngsters in Phoenix.
