The show is called “Shaq vs.,” and features the mammoth NBA star competing with other star athletes from various sports. For the Shaq vs. Phelps episode, the two will compete in Baltimore—the Olympic champion’s hometown.

The 7’1” giant admits he won’t have a chance against him in the pool. At the press conference before taping the show, he called himself “Shaq-Mu,” when referring to whether or not his size 22 feet would give him an advantage. Standing nearly a foot taller, and over 100 pounds heavier, Shaqille O’Neal has a great deal of respect for Phelps, saying:

“It doesn’t matter what you do cause it’s not going to work.”

O’Neal has a pool at his home, but reportedly doesn’t do too many laps. His favorite swimming activity seems to be jumping off cliffs with his kids (I’m guessing the splash is pretty huge).

The two athletes spent time together before squaring off, having dinner at the Red Star, and appearing at media events. The actual competition will be filmed at Loyola University’s aquatic center this week.

To make it fair, the Baltimore Sun reports that the producers may chose to handicap Phelps. There’s been talk of weighting the star swimmer down, tying his feet together, or even making him swim double the length.

Shaquille O’Neal will take on plenty of other high-profile sport’s celebs in the series, including Serena Williams, St. Louis Cardinals player Albert Pujols, and infamous boxer Oscar de la Hoya.
