There is only one problem. Is Caster Semenya a woman or a man? Questions have dogged her since her splash on the international scene when she ran the fastest 800 meters so far in 2009 and won in the Berlin World Championships. Speculation is so intense that the international powers (International Association of Athletics Federations, or IAAF) have ordained that she undergo DNA testing to determine her true sex. DNA doesn’t lie like a peak in her pants might with cosmetic modifications to the plumbing.

Results of Caster Semenya’s DNA test will be known to the IAAF in about two weeks, at which time we can solve the mystery. What is your guess? Is Caster Semenya male or female, man or woman? Is Caster Semenya hermaphrodite? Read more about the controversy here and here and here.

When you look at her pictures, you can understand why people are wondering. She has a man’s torso, manly abs, guy arms, guy legs, guy chest, and guy facial hair. The only thing not boy about her is the cute athletic supporter that shows off her manly tummy. She would not be the first man to try to woman his way to the finish line. There are several famous cases in the Olympics before gender testing was developed.

As a biography, Caster Semenya was born July 1st 1991 which makes her only 18 years old. Her place of birth is Polokwane, South Africa. Her personal best mark of 1:55.45 in the 800 meters was set in the Berlin World Championships on August 19th, 2009 where she took first place by about 5 miles. In the 1500 meters, in which she also excels, she ran an astounding 4:08.01 in February.

We’ve had cases of muscular women and that should not be an issue. How come she passed all avenues onto the track without being pinpointed! Besides, it was not fair to test if she is man or woman, and what if it turns out that she is a true woman? will they pay her for name and CV damage i dont think so!! Madam Semenya Caster is a muscular woman thats all, i dont know lets wait and see…

Question: Why is this now becoming an issue after he/she won the race? Why wasn’t his/her gender questioned prior the race even beginning?

    Lynn Says:

It is being questioned now because the person they wanted to win didn’t!

Actually About three weeks ago, the international federation asked South African track and field authorities to conduct the verification test. After Semenya had appeared pretty much out of nowhere and posted a world-leading time of at the African junior championships in Maruitius. So it’s not just the World Championship.
