Phillies ballplayer Shane Victorino had a cub fan throw his beer at him at Wednesday’s game. Read more about the story, plus browse pictures and video here.
A mischievous fan made the party foul of the year at Wrigley Field on Wednesday. The Phillies were winning 12-1 in the fifth inning with the Cubs at bat. That is when a fan decided to pour out his beer all over Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino as he was attempting to catch a sacrifice fly in center field.
Ballpark security mistakenly detained a fan that was merely taunting Victorino, but not the elusive beer tosser himself; who is still at large. According to the Tribune’s Paul Sullivan:
By the time they looked at the WGN-TV video and realized the taunting fan was not the beer tosser, the fan who actually threw the beer managed to get up and slip out of the ballpark.
The Chicago Police Department and the Cubs are working together in effort to find the beer-wasting villain, and intend to publicly release his picture on Thursday.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella was very apologetic about the incident saying that its “not good sportsmanship,” and apologized to both Victorino and the entire Phillies team.
