The skateboarding community is in shock over the sudden death of the legendary East Coast skateboarder who died on August 10, 2009 in Montauk, New York reportedly from complications of a hornet’s sting.
As a biography, Andy Kessler was 49 years old at the time of his death. He was born in Greece and grew up in the Upper West Side of Manhattan on West 71st. His father own a floral shop and his mother was a gym teacher.
He was a trailblazer in the sport of skateboarding in New York City in the 1970s where he was a member of the ‘original’ Zoo York crew; known as the Soul Artists of Zoo York, an influential collective of graffiti artists and skateboarders. The latter congregated on the Upper West Side in Riverside Park where their innovations took the sport to new levels.
