Amanda Altschuler, Wayne Ellington’s girlfriend, may not be too thrilled that he was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves yesterday. She was hoping that he was going to be staying a little bit closer to home.
Wayne isn’t too upset, though. He said:
“My girlfriend goes to Drexel, so she wanted me to stay local, as did my family. I’m not upset at all, though. This is a blessing.”
Ellington’s family has been based in Cary, North Carolina for the last three years, but threw a private party at Vino Restaurant and Lounge in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia for about 50 people, including Wayne Ellington girlfriend, Amanda Altschuler, to watch the NBA draft.
His hometown Philadelphia 76ers passed on the 21-year-old former Episcopal Academy and University of North Carolina star at pick No.17, and disappointed Amanda could not contain herself and started crying.
At the No. 28 pick, he was scooped up by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He had worked out with the team on two occasions, as recently as Tuesday. Check out video of his workout below. He said:
“It was a long wait, but I’m happy. I’m in The League. I’m relieved. I’m ready to work and make the best of it. I definitely feel I can contribute. It’s a great opportunity. They have a lot of talented young guys and I think I’ll be able to fit in well.”
As far as a biography on Amanda Altschuler, not much is known about the pretty brunette. We do know that she is 19 years old and is a student at Drexel University. Check out a picture of her here. No doubt she’ll be racking up the frequent flyer miles to Minnesota.
