Spain’s loss to the United States in the semifinal of the Confed Cup Tuesday will long go down in the books as one of the biggest upsets in international soccer history.

Jozy Altidore scored in the 27th minute while Clint Dempsey scored in the 74th for the U.S., and goalkeeper Tim Howard made eight saves for the team. Dempsey also received his second Man of the Match award.

Bob Bradley, U.S. Men’s National Team head coach, said:

“For us it’s a big night. The players all work hard. We constantly talk about reaching higher and trying to accomplish new things. Spain is a team that we have the greatest respect for. They are a super team. Their ability to play, pass and move. We knew it was a challenge, but we felt that we would have a chance and that we could win this game.”

The win marks the first time the U.S. men have reached a major international final. The U.S. will play the winner of Thursday night’s semifinal match between Brazil and South Africa on Sunday.
