New York hosts 2008 US Olympic Marathon Trials

The Men’s Marathon starts today in New York City on November 3. More than 160 men have qualified to compete in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials . The 2008 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, will be hosted by USA Track & Field , the Olympic Team Trials -Women’s Marathon is assigned to the Boston Athletic Association and the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Men’s Marathon to the New York Road Runners.The course will take place in Central Park and start in Rockefeller Plaza, finish line is near Tavern on the Green. The Athletes will run the loop five times, with distance added to complete the full 42.195 km of the marathon.

Both events will provide $250,000 in prize money in addition to paying travel and lodging costs for athletes who achieve the Olympic Trials “A” qualifying standard of 2:39:00 for women and 2:20:00 for men. The Top Tier for the Men’s 2008 US Olympic Marathon Trials includes the 2004 Olympic silver medalist Meb Keflezighi, Abdi Abdirahman won his third national 10,000-meter title in Indianapolis in June,and Ryan Hall who accomplished a 59:43 half-marathon win in Houston in January.
