Meet Cristiane Santos, also known as Cyborg, a Brazilian Mixed Martial Arts fighter. See photos, video and read a biography of Cristiane here.
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos is in the news today as her highly anticipated fight against Gina Carano is scheduled for August 15 at HP Pavilion in San Jose. What’s making the rounds on the internet, though, is video of a reporter asking Santos how long it would take her to “choke out” Gina Carano. She literally shows the reporter just how long. You can see the video below, it is a must see!
As a biography, Cristiane Venancio Santos was born on July 9, 1985 in Curitiba, Brazil, so her age is 23. She stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 150.5 pounds. She is married to Evangelista Santos.
While competing at the Handball Championship in 2004 (she was still in high school), a Chute Boxe coach noticed Cris and saw how athletic she was in comparison to the other girls. He invited her to a free Muay Thai class at Master Rafael Cordeiro’s Chute Boxe gym. This was the beginning of her Muay Thai career.
After only three months of training, Cordeiro knew it was time for her first MMA fight. She began training Jiu Jitsu and soon fought Erica Paes, but Santos was injured in the fight and it had to be stopped. After recovering from the injury she began training again, this time meeting another fighter, Vanessa Porter. Cris won by unanimous decision.
Cristiane signed with EliteXC in 2008 and made her U.S. MMA debut against Shayna Baszler at EliteXC: Unfinished Business on July 26, 2008. She beat Baszler by TKO.
After EliteXC folded, she signed with StrikeForce in February 2009. Santos will meet Gina Carano August 15 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, a main event bout that will last five rounds, with each round lasting five minutes.
What do you think folks? Who will reign victorious? Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos or Gina Carano? Leave me a comment! Check out more photos and video of Santos below.
