In a major stunner, defending French Open champion and No. 1 ranked Rafael Nadal was ousted by Robin Soderling of Sweden, 6–2, 6–7 (2), 6–4, 7–6 (2) today, ending Nadal’s chase of Bjorn Borg’s record of four consecutive French Open titles.

“I didn’t play my best tennis against Soderling, so it was my fault. I am not going to make any excuses. It is always tough losing in a slam, especially in one where you have the better chance to win.”

Defending French Open champion Ana Ivanovic also lost – to Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, 6-2, 6-3, with the match lasting a mere 55 minutes long. She said:

“I started really well, and I felt really good in the beginning. Then after the third game, actually after first point in the fourth game, I just suddenly started feeling so dizzy, and I completely lost my balance.”
