Rachel Christie: Miss London Is an Olympics Hopeful!

May 22, 2009

Meet Rachel Christie, a British professional track and field athlete who has just won the Miss London City beauty peagent. Rachel is the niece of former Olympian Linford Christie and is a remarkable blend of beauty and athletic power. See photos, video and a biography of Rachel Christie here.

Rachel won the Miss London title earlier this month and is now hoping to win the Miss England pageant in July to book her berth in the Miss World competition to be held in South Africa in December. The interesting part is that besides training for the beauty pageant, she is also training to make it to the 2012 Olympics as a heptathlon and 400 meters track star.

“My ambition in life is to become a successful woman in whatever it is I choose to do. I want to win the Olympics – hopefully I will be entered for 2012.”

Miss England officials were certainly surprised to see a sprinting beauty taking part.

“We have never had an athlete compete with us before. She is a very determined young woman and wants to achieve success in whatever she does.”

Rachel Christie Biography

As a biography, Rachel Christie is 20 years old and lives in Kensington, London. She is the daughter of Russell Christie and the niece of Linford Christie, a former British Olympian who won the 100m gold in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and was the last British person to do so.

Rachel’s father, who was also a champion athlete, was killed in a drug-war incident when she was just eight. She says that his death pushes her everyday to give her best on the track.

“His death made my think about what’s important and what I want to achieve. It puts things in perspective. Sport is good for taking the anger away.”

Linford’s coach Rod Roddan is also coaching Rachel to achieve her dreams. He believes that the lady’s got real potential and will manage a berth in the Olympics in 2012.
