Star volleyball player Kerry Walsh and her husband Casey Jennings are expecting a boy this spring. The couple had the sex of the baby checked and confirmed to the media that it is indeed a boy, as Kerry was expecting.
“I am beyond excited,” the gold medal-winning beach volleyball star tells PEOPLE. “It’s more beautiful and more special than I ever thought possible.”
Walsh has also decided on the name of the child, Joseph Michael Jennings. She had earlier announced about her pregnancy after the gold-winning final game against Brazil during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
“We had been wanting to have kids for a long time and tried to get pregnant before Beijing but had a miscarriage,” she admits. “It was sad, but the way it happened I had to wait at least a year before trying again. Then we got pregnant literally first try, day one in Beijing after we finished. Beijing baby. It was an inspired conception!”
I can understand how happy she must be after suffering from that miscarriage. Kerry, 30, had the sex of the baby checked just days before Christmas and then she broke the news to her husband and the family on the Christmas evening by opening the envelope with the ultrasound report sealed inside.
Kerry and Casey, who is also a professional volleyball player, have been married since 2005. Now, that they are happy about their first child… Kerry says that it’s not the end of the road for them as she wants at least three children.
Meanwhile, given the national interest, the pregnancy of Walsh and a tendon injury affecting her long time partner Misty May-Treanor has left the spots open in the national team for the 2009 season. Nicole Branagh and teammate Elaine Youngs are said to be the favourites to fill the void in the upcoming Crocs Tour Riverside Open.
