Matt Vasgersian: Sportscaster

April 30, 2009

Meet Matt Vasgersian, an American sportscaster who is currently the lead announcer for the MLB Network. See a video and a biography of Matt Vasgersian here.

Vasgersian was involved in yet another controversy when he made a supposed-to-be humourous comment during a recent baseball game when Rockies outfielder Brad Hawpe was being taken away due to injury. Matt said that one of the on-field assistants looks like Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

The joke turned what was a serious and solemn moment into a very awkward moment as Vasgersian’s fellow analysts chided him on air.

Vasgersian and the network issued an apology later.

As a biography, Matt Vasgersian was born in 1968 so his age is 40. He was an actor in his childhood and became a member of the Screen Actors Guild at the age of seven. He has appeared in the movie The Candidate. He later attended the University of Southern California and then started his career as a sportscaster for radio in 1991.

Matt became the television play-by-play commentator for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1997. He then worked with the San Diego Padres and moved on to become the MLB Network’s first studio host last year. Vasgersian has earlier been charged with minor incidents of negative commentating.

Matt had also hosted the telecasts of FOX Game of the Week and the 2008 Olympics coverage by NBC Sports.
