Starting pitcher Jake Westbrook was shaky from the beginning for Cleveland, allowing hits to the first two batters before Manny Ramirez singled home the game’s first run to a delirious sold-out crowd in Boston. He was lucky to get out of the inning on a double play after loading the bases and allowing four hits in the first inning.

He continued to struggle in the early innings before eventually settling down. By the 3rd inning it was 3-0 Boston and they never looked back. Six runs in the 8th inning. capped by a homer run by Kevin Youkilis, put the game away for good and the celebration began in Beantown.

Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched an impressive game after a lackluster regular season. Never before has a game seven starter appeared to be so over-matched only to arise victorious in the challenge. Matsuzaka was lights out in the beginning and held the powerful Cleveland bats to two runs in five innings before he withered to the Boston bullpen.

Cleveland threatened in the late innings, but was victimized by a poor call by their 3rd base coach on a hit that should have scored Kenny Lofton, and a promising rally in the 8th inning was snuffed about by a double play induced by flame-throwing Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon.

But after the monster 8th inning put the game away, nothing that happened earlier seemed to matter anymore. Final Red Sox – Indians score was 11-2. Game, series, match.

The Colorado Rockies come to Fenway Park on Tuesday for Game 1 of the world series in what promises to be an exciting match-up. Tickets are unavailable. The series is already sold out.
