Italian race car driver, Alessandro Zanardi, has had one hell of a career. From a dangerous crash that cost him his legs, Alessandro still keeps moving forward. Read his biography below.
As a biography Alessandro “Alex” Zanardi was born on October 23, 1966 in Castel Maggiore, Bologna. He is an Italian race car driver who began to race karts at the age of 13 before he rose to fame in 1990 after becoming a championship contender in the Italian Formula 3 series.
In the late 1990’s Zanardi won two CART championship titles in North America. The rest of the decade did not go as smooth though. The pro racer sustained injuries during a crash in 1994; he also failed to score a point in the Spanish Grand Prix the same year. His Formula One career suddenly hit the wall.
In 1996 Zanardi made his move to CART with a seat at the Chip Ganassi Racing. With twelve total victories that season Zanardi was named Champ Racing Rookie of the Year. Zanardi also managed to win at the Laguna Seca that same year.
In 2001 tragedy struck Alex Zanardi when he had to have his legs amputated following a crash. Alex however has not left the world of racing he currently competes in the FIA World Touring Car Championship for BMW Team Italy-Spain. Zanardi is currently married and has one son with his wife Daniela.
