Oscar De La Hoya
Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya is said to be announcing his retirement on April 14th! De La Hoya will reportedly discuss his future in the ring this coming Tuesday at a the news conference at Star Plaza in Los Angeles.
“My decision is solely based on how I feel, not on how (business partner) Richard (Schaefer) feels, and not on how my wife feels. I’ve had input from tons of people. Obviously I’m going to pay more attention to people who are closest to me, but I literally was asking people in the street: ‘Should I retire or should I continue?’ It was split. Enjoy your family.’ That was my No. 1 response from most people.”
At the age of thirty-six, De La Hoya, who’s current record is 39-6 with 30 KOs, has apparently been circling the possiblity of retirement since his loss to Manny Pacquiao last December. There is one person who knows what the boxer plans to do but he isn’t sharing:
“I know what he’s going to do, but it would not be fair for me to say. Oscar is going to make his announcement, whether he will fight or retire. It is up to him to make known what his decision is,” Schaefer stated.
